I know this isn't exactly what y'all were speaking of, but I want to get it off my chest. Come the first of November, my house will be in foreclosure. (It was in foreclosure back in the summer, but we managed to get a forebearance. That is up last day of October.) Was the lender "creative"? No. Was I irresponcible? No. For medical reasons, I haven't worked for two years. I have applied for disability, but the request is held up somewhere in the great bureaucracy. The disability payments every month would mean we could make the payments OK. Folks who did get in over their heads will likely get some help, but I'm screwed. TheCarolinaScotsman
I am so terribly sorry. This sort of thing happens far more than we would all like. It is times like these that make us all very aware of just how much Alan Greenspan and those in government like him, should be held accountable for their lack of diligence and oath of serving the people. We should take care of folks like you who have worked hard and done things on the up and up, and allow those who have allowed greed to get them in too deep to experience the consequences of their mistakes. Many American families making an honest living could be assisted in tough times w/the money spent to bail out crooks.
I think Patch's ideas are a good start. Have you talked w/social services at SS office or local social services office? You might also try some of the local churches who may have programs providing temporary assistance. If you're a veteran, there may also be assistance available by calling your county veterans benefits office. I'll keep my ear to the ground for any other possibilities and post them if I hear of any.

Thanks for the good wishes; means more than all of you know. BTW, I do have a disability attorney. They are trying to get some breathing room. Fingers crossed.

My oldest daughter has some artistic ability and she did a picture for me which hung on the wall beside my desk.
It pictured a large elephant, spread eagle on the ground, with its trunk outstretched. There were 8 turkeys standing on the elephant and the caption was "Don't let the turkeys get you down." It was lost in moving after I retired and when she has time, my daughter will do another one for me. I saw it as an inspiration.
I believe in continuing the fight down to the "last inch of ground!" Sometimes the battle is won at the very end.
I recived this email toady and I thought about what it said ,it's so true we need them to stop what they are doing. I have sent this on to my Congressman and State rep. Let them think about it !
We the people need to revolt, fire them all and start fresh. Term limits and the line item veto would be a good start.
How many zeros in a billion?
This is too true to be funny.
The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of it's releases.
A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E.
A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes,
at the rate our government
is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.
Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
is presently asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
what does it mean?
A.
Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child)
you each get $516,528.
B.
Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.
C.
Or... if you are a family of four...
your family gets $2,066,012.

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago... and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt...
We had the largest middle class in the world...
and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What happened?
Can you spell 'politicians!'
And I still have to
press '1'
for English.
I hope this goes around the
USA
at least 100 times
What the heck happened?????

I want to post this to make everyone aware of how bad, "The State of the Union" has gotten.
My sister coached this young veteran in high school track. It is absolutely appalling what happens to him at a peaceful rally at Hofstra. There are background panicked voices w/obscenities so please, if this offends you, do not watch it. I simply feel this is something we should all know. It has now hit home. I am emailing my sister to find out if he is okay and if there is an ongoing investigation.
Jillian, I am so sorry. Anytime someone is hurt in expressing their opinion, you wonder why this had to happen. I have not seen any other information on this. Why where the police called if it was a peaceful demonstration?
I have been hit by horses and it can do alot of damage. Please know he has my thoughts and prayers and keep us updated.

This also brings up the Halloween display in California of Sara Palin. The big debate is it just a display or is it a hate crime.
I think it is a hate crime, when you specifically characterize a hanging dummy like they have done. Has it hurt someone? No. I can't help but think if it was someone else, charges would have been filed already.
Yeah, I keep coming back to "We the People"...every individual must keep a cool head and remember that we all have our opinions because we believe they will promote what's best for the country. I feel that I keep repeating myself but I can't help thinking that the politicians have promulgated this attitude of devisiveness and we are--as someone mentioned here on a CR post--being "sheeple" and not critically analyzing what's going on. I know many will disagree about needing compromise, but as a few folks have stated, unregulated socialism and unregulated capitalism are both bad for this country. So where does that leave us? Perhaps gravely needing a compromise from moderates. Is there a way to pull good points from both sides to upright this country? I certainly hope so.
I fear it is an omen of things to come! I hope he recovers and wins his case. The police will fight harder to convict since was injured. I am not a big fan of the ACLU but he might want to contact them. They have accomplished some really good things. With the video they surely would be interested.
W-e-l-l....it certainly is hard to follow that post!
As for another person tooting his kazoo... , Senator Chuck Schumer is actively seeking to implement the Fairness Doctrine. In an interview he equated conservative talk radio to pornography. Hmmm, is he trying to limit freedom of speech or what?
Jillian
PS: the kazoo comic...she is very talented!
