For my mythology course, I need to write a paper on anything mythology-related and I was going to do Women on the Battlefield. I was going to include the Amazons, Valkylries (sp?), and Celtic war-goddesses. If anybody could lead me to books (I need at least two books sources, and I only have one so far), websites, and any knowledge from yourself or other sources, that would be most excellent and you'd be given credit in my bibliography!

Thanks so much! cheers.gif

Hi, EMTQueen!
I don't know how much this will help, but I pulled up some results on Google for Celtic Goddesses. This is the link for the search page.

Hi there! If you're interested in women on the battlefield, I'd recommend doing some research on Boudicca, warrior queen and general ass-kicker of the Romans.

Here's a general overview: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/historic_figu.../boudicca.shtml

And here's a book I found on Amazon, which seems to be a good source of factual information: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...g=UTF8&v=glance

I'm sure if you go to the library or spend some time Googling, you'll find A LOT on her. She's always been one of my heroes. :-)

Some mythology sites that I like:
www.pantheon.org/

www.mythsearch.com/index.html

and www.spiritwalk.org/mythology.htm

They're mainly general mythology, but never know what you can find!! Hope this helps!

Thankies for the help to everyone who has replied or going to reply in the future! I haven't been going to many of the classes (the material is interesting, but the professor lectures directly from the PowerPoints, plus she posts them online, so I have no incentive or desire to attend class. When I do, I'm usually doing my Japanese homework), and I need to do well on the paper and creative project.

May I recomend the site http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/skyelander/menu14.html . This section has chapters about Celtic warriors including a section on Boudica.

You may want to look up Queen Maeve, and also don't forget Athena. (Boudica is the first person I thought of, but she's already been mentioned tongue.gif ). This sounds like a great project -- good luck, and enjoy it!

Would Boudicca really come under Mythology?

You know what redheads get as they get older Rindy?

they give grey hair so can't be that. I wonder if the snakes are a redheads curse for being so outragous.

hey that's a pretty good site. Very interesting! I have been to Rome and Athens Greece and I love mythology.

When I sat there on the steps of the pathenon I imagined what it would be like to come to town and see the site in all of it's beauty and all of the parts still attached. The statue's were awesome. When you look at the museum and the pieces that are in it, there is just something magical in something being that old.

Thank you,I thought it was. You are so lucky to have gone there. I also liked mythology. It was kind of like science fiction to me I couldn't believe what I was reading. Did you see Troy? I thought it was ok, I will take Braveheart any day. I forget how fun it is to relearn this stuff.
Wish I would have paid attention the first time. rolleyes.gif
