Hello again,
I lost my cursor, so had to turn off the computer and start over. To recap, I'm a retired, senior lady who has played in several small Celtic bands in the past. I still play tin whistle, recorder, washtub bass, and my hands. Some O'Carolan tunes sound pretty good done on my hands. Before retirement, I worked for 25 years as a secretary in an addictions clinic. I'm currently in the process of creating a Web site about my handwhistling, and am on the verge of getting someone local in my area to help me finalize this project.
Does anyone know when The Chieftans will be on tour again? I notice that since Derek Bell's death their official Web site seems to have disappeared.

Dia dhuit,
After lurking and listening for some time, I decided it was time to register. I currently live in Rochester, NY. Previously lived in Tacoma, WA, Moscow, ID, Berkeley, CA, Carlsbad, CA, Paramount, CA, Big Lake, WA, and Marblemount, WA. Also spent some time in the Far East, courtesy of the US Air Force: Clark AB, PI, Danang AB, RVN, Korat RTAFB, Thailand, Kadena AB, Okinawa, and Yokota AB, Japan (many hours long ago and and far away in the back of a variety of aluminum tubes--RC-130BII, RC-135M, and EC-121--conducting "surveillance" missions).
Recently became interested in all things Celtic when my daughter joined a BSA Venturing Crew specializing in War Between the States (AKA American Civil War), and started researching ancestors' involvment in same. In discovering two Yankee and one Confederate gg-grandfathers, a Conferate gg-uncle, and literally dozens of cousins on both sides, also discovered that I had many Celtic immigrant ancestors from the 1600's and 1700's, including James McDonald (Ireland), John Livingston (Lowland Scotland), John Frasier (Ulster, Tyrone County), William Bolton (Wales), Peter Hogg (Edinburgh, Scotland), John McCulloch (Cardoness, Scotland--lineage includes Sir Godfrey McCulloch, reputedly last man to kiss Scotland's Iron Maiden), and Peter Ware (Ireland). I am a member of Clan Donald USA.

Welcome to all the new people! I am new here myself, but getting around pretty good now. You will meet lots of really nice people here.

Mailagnus! What a life and history you have! Very interesting. I am interested in all things Scottish and Celtic. My family has been researched too and I am from the MacPherson clan. Funny thing is, my husband's family is too! eek.gif laugh.gif

Hope you enjoy it here and make many new friends!

Welcome to all! This place is fun...

--------------------
Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?
