Phoenix, Arizona – On Saturday & Sunday, February 23 & 24, 2008 the Arizona Scottish community and about 15,000 of their closest friends from the four corners of the world will gather at their NEW HOME, Margaret T. Hance Park in downtown Phoenix to celebrate their culture.

The event is comprised of many things: World-class athletic competitions, Highland Dance, Re-enactment presentations, Clans, Food, Live music, Bagpipe & Drum bands from all over the globe and lots of fun for the wee lads & lassies.

Have you ever seen a big burley man in a kilt toss a telephone-pole-like caber? Did you know that the origination of pipe bands comprised of pipers, side drummers, a bass drummer and occasionally a tenor drummer occurred sometime after the battle of Waterloo in 1815? How about that right along with the ancient stories of daring warriors and master pipers you will find dance as a crucial part of celebrations and ceremonies of the Highlands!

Join the Caledonian Society of Arizona on Saturday & Sunday, February 23 & 24, 2008 and enjoy a day about Scottish Culture – Eat, sing, dance, visit the clans, learn about your own Celtic Roots and enjoy a weekend of Scottish merriment!

Admissions: One Day: General Admission - $12, Seniors - $11, Children 6-12 $5

Proceeds: Benefit the educational efforts of the Caledonian Society of Arizona and other non-profit organizations for children here in the Valley.

For Information: Call the Caledonian Society of Arizona (602) 431-0095 or check Our Web Site at www.arizonascots.com

Hello Desert Lass! I am one of the re-enactors for this event. We're with the 1745 Jacobite Society. I am told this event will be held at the Irish Cultural Center. Is this the same place you have posted above?

Thanks!

HALLELUJAH......I have been waiting years for the Gathering to move out of
Mesa. Why?...that's a story not to be told in missed company, HA! HA!
Anyway, I am very happy and will be there.

I won't be able to join up with Celtic Rose in Tucson this week-end. Seems
my son-in-law has the big "C", doc gave him 6 months. Got a lot of adjustments
to make, you see my daughter and I are not suppose to know. He had his
medical files locked. Oh well, everyone has a right to handle this kind of thing in their own way. How did we find out? Lynn over heard one of the doctor's at the
hospital tell him, "You might want to consider Hospice." Then I picked up a call
from Hospice offering their services.

Sure could use a couple of prayers for strength and patients, if anyone has the
time. Anyway, enough of the sad stuff..this is not really the place for it. But did
not know where else to put it. If someone does go for it...I'm out of here for now.

DJ, first of all I am very very sorry to hear about what your SIL is going through at this time. My thoughts and prayers are with him and your whole family. Please do keep us posted.

Missed you at the Tucson Celtic games today. Do you know that one of the organizers there is named Donajhi as well?

I have never cared for the Highland games being at the Mesa Community college myself. I am frankly glad to get out of there. However, I keep hearing both views (pro and against) the Irish cultural festival. We'll just have to see how it goes, eh?

If you would like prayers for your SIL, feel free to post it in the Kirk and Chapel. We will certainly be praying for you and your whole family. There we can keep better posted on what's going on too. wink.gif smile.gif

Will keep you posted on the Phx games as I hear.

Thank you for your concern, Celtic Rose. I will post in Kirk and Chapel as I will need the strength of the blood as time goes along.

On a happier note. I hope you took loads of pics and post them for us to enjoy.
You found another Donajhi, great. What clan is she?

My reason for being happy the games have move from Mesa is, years ago one of
the organizers stepped way out of line. I was manning the Henderson tent and
engaged him in conversation. He told me that the Scots were nothing but a bunch
of drunks and barbarians that were only kept under control in Mesa by the ban on
alcohol. Of course, I jumped into him and never returned to Mesa. Religion should
not enter in to the Gatherings, but in Mesa it did. He told me if not for the money
the gatherings generated they would be ban forever. I say again, HALLELUJAH.

Look forward to update.........Thanks

Hey DJ! Hope this finds you doing well at this time. will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

For some reason I thought the Phoenix games aka Mesa games was to be held at the Irish Cultural Center, but that is not true at all. It is to be held at the park across the street from there which is much larger. yay! Here is the link.
