Celtic Radio has been and always will be about the music. It provides a connection to our past through the lyrics and melodies of the ancient Celts. Some songs are new and bold; others are traditional and hundreds of years old. In the words of one of our listeners, "Your music restores my soul in times of depression and a lullaby when life seems uncertain." And from another listener, "You've got an excellent station that plays music I can't find anywhere else!"

The music we play does appear to have a magical ability that lessens the stress of everyday life, it picks you up in times of sorrow and surprises you with the lessons that these musicians tell in the stories they sing. Give us a listen for a few days and see if you can feel the energy and power that Celtic music provides! You may be surprised how good the music can feel.

Enjoy the rest of your summer now!

Scottish Independence

user posted imageAround 40 percent of Scots plan to vote for independence in this year's referendum, according to a poll on Thursday which showed a three-point rise in support for an end to the country's 307-year-old-union with England.

The poll, carried out by Panelbase, showed that 45 percent of those questioned intended to vote against Scottish independence, a decline of two points from the last equivalent survey.

Scotland, which has a population of just over 5 million and whose territorial waters are the source of much of the North Sea's oil and gas, will vote on September 18 on whether to leave the UK.

Do you think ending 307 years of Union between Scotland and England is the right thing to do? Will this result in a greater Scotland or perhaps result in economic disaster for both Scotland and the U.K? And finally, did Mel Gibson play a role in this independence plan with his 1995 movie "Braveheart." Vote in our online poll and be heard!

Epic Photobomb

"The Australian women’s hockey team received a royal photo bomb on Thursday when Queen Elizabeth II made an unscheduled visit during the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Known as the “Hockeyroos,” the team was warming down after their 4-0 win over Malaysia when the queen of England arrived early for a Wales-England match scheduled immediately after the Australia game, News.com.au reports.

The Australian players were ecstatic over the surprise appearance and immediately began firing off selfies, hoping to get a shot of the queen as she walked by.

“Ahhh the Queen photo-bombed our selfie!!” hockey player Jayde Taylor tweeted on Thursday, revealing a picture with teammate Brooke Peris as a cheerful Queen Elizabeth smiled behind them."

Ashley Davis

"Night Travels"

Ashley Davis has been nurturing her passion for music since she was just about 14. There is something absolutely great about those artist who manage to start performing and writing material so early on in their life.

Being so young, many aspiring singers fail to realize the amount of work needed to succeed in music, even though they are blessed with an unprecedented enthusiasm and motivation. Ashley seems to bridge these two philosophy, with enough organization and care for her act, yet allowing her creative instinct to play a significant part of her performances and recordings alike.

“Ashley seems to bridge these two philosophy, with enough organization and care for her act, yet allowing her creative instinct to play a significant part of her performances and recordings alike..."

Combining her love for culture and history with a fondness for period music and folk tradition, Ashley set out to create a unique and expressive blend of music, not unlike acts such as Blackmore’s Night, albeit with a more polished feel. It didn’t take long before Ashley managed to leave a really positive impression on the music scene, bringing her Irish-American music on tour and performing extensively for different audiences in different settings...

Battle of Bannockburn
The 23 and 24 of June hold a special meaning for Scotland and England as the two countries commemorate one of the longest battles of Medieval times: the battle of Bannockburn. This battle marked a brief period of independence under the rule of King Robert Bruce, a much coveted time of relative peace in the tumultuous campaigns of Scottish independence.

Since historical events never happen in isolation, the best way to revisit the Battle of Bannockburn is starting with the campaigns that preceded the victorious clash.

Around the world, most people will remember the name William Wallace - represented inaccurately by Aussie Mel Gibson - and associate it with the campaign for Scotland's independence. While Wallace did set the background for the success at Bannockburn, he died a gruesome death before seeing Scotland achieve this victory...

Per Kelt
"Dowry of a Troll Woman"

The Celtic music scene is not exactly associated with Eastern Europe, but as they say, the best things often come from the most unlikely places.

Per Kelt is a group of award-winning musicians hailing from the Czech Republic and Honolulu Hawai'i. Their music embraces the spirit of Celtic folk, yet these artists are not afraid to branch out, developing a fast, progressive and flamboyant approach to their performances - an approach that translates into spectacular live shows and dropping jaws within the audience!

"Their music embraces the spirit of Celtic folk, yet these artists are not afraid to branch out, developing a fast, progressive and flamboyant approach to their performances..."

The band's reputation as an incendiary live act allowed them to tour extensively throughout the world, with over 400 gigs in support of their three well received studio albums. They most recently won "Best Live Act of the Year in the UK" for the 2014 Exposure Music Awards, given by judging members of the UK Music Industry...

Go Wireless - Amazon FireTV

The Amazon Fire TV is a tiny box that connects your HDTV to a huge selection of TV episodes, movies, games, apps and more. Most importantly, this little technology box is a cable killer simply put.

Having been introduced to streaming TV first through the Microsoft XBox and the Nintendo WII, it was a natural progression to pickup a Roku to experience a fully functioning and dedicated streaming TV box. So when Amazon announced their Fire TV device, my thoughts turned towards possibly untethering from our cable company and going completely internet.

The specs on the Fire TV definitely supported this new direction for our family’s TV entertainment. The Fire TV boasts fast and fluid video thanks to a quad-core processor, a dedicated Adreno 320 graphics engine, 2GB of memory, voice search, instant start video and up to 1080p HD with dolby digital plus up to 7.1 through HDMI or optical out. This little box sounded like a dream...
