Inside This Issue

Welcome to our May Newsletter! At Celtic Radio we have decided to do our own part in stimulating the economy by holding "The Great VideoCelt Contest!" With gas prices pinching everyone's budget, this is the perfect contest to earn a few dollars and have a bit of fun too. There's a bunch of prizes, including Tshirts, CDs, bumper stickers, premium upgrades and of course - cash prizes! :)

The idea for the contest started when we were going to purchase advertising to promote our new VideoCelt.com site. We thought perhaps a cash contest for our members would do a better job at getting the word out to the Celtic masses. So far its been a complete success and we have increased our video library by about 35%.  Read all of the details about this contest and then check the current stats. Have fun!

Celtic Music Is Healthy! Well the American Society of Hypertension has confirmed what we already know, listening to Celtic music for 30 minutes a day for one month has significant reductions in blood pressure. In the study, they also mentioned Indian (raga) music and Classical music which we occasionally play on Celtic Radio. Not only is Celtic music healthy for you, but it's also a great companion in the office, the store or at home. We have received many emails from listeners expressing appreciation for the serenity and focus our broadcasts have given while working on thesis papers, reports and even while cleaning the house! The fact that Celtic music is healthy is no secret to us. So go ahead and start reducing your blood pressure by getting your daily dose of Celtic music through our site!  Read the full Yahoo article.

Aine Minogue

"Celtic Pilgrimage"

Aine Minogue was born in Ireland and began playing the harp at the age of 12. She now lives in Massachusetts and has seven solo albums to her credit.

This CD was inspired by her trek to many sacred sites in the lands of the Celts. The ultimate spiritual pilgrimage we all take is the one from birth through life to death. But the Celtic people also have a long and illustrious tradition of sacred journeys to places where the two worlds meet.

“Those on pilgrimage in this tradition not
only are blessed by the places they visit but they send out blessings as well....”

Those on pilgrimage in this tradition not only are blessed by the places they visit but they send out blessings as well. This reciprocity is mirrored beautifully in Aine Minogue's music and lyrics on this graceful and touching CD. She invites us to listen to her musical diary which expresses many of the devotional aspects of her pilgrimage. One of our favorite selections is "Blessing" where she sings: "May the longtime sun shine on you, all love surround you and the pure light within you guide you on your way." The melody is as sweet as the sentiments.

"OK Pewter"

Mabon is the Celtic music of accordionist Jamie Smith brought to life through the energetic performances and breathtaking playing of some of the best musicians in the folk scene today.

Mabon took the folk scene by storm in 2007 with a series of memorable concerts including Llangollen International Eisteddfod and Cambridge Folk Festival. Coupled with the success of their critically-acclaimed album, OK Pewter – ‘a huge grin of an album...hold it in your hands soon.’ (fRoots Magazine) – the band is now regarded as Wales’ premier Celtic export.

"Mabon's musical roots lie deeply in the traditional music of its Celtic heritage, which provides the inspiration and the foundation for the band’s original brand of new interceltic music..."

Led by Jamie – ‘scarily talented’ (Rock‘n’Reel Magazine), 'accordion master' (fRoots) – Mabon’s seven-piece line-up marries stunning accordion, fiddle and flute melodies with a tight, tasteful and downright groovy rhythm section of guitar, bodhran, bass and drums. The result is a unique and invigorating take on Celtic music, with the capacity to simultaneously glue you to your seat and drag you up onto the dance floor!
